Description
Exotic Origin: Endemic to South-Central China, Rhapis excelsa was first prized by the Japanese for Tokugawa shogunate palaces.
Distinctive Appearance: Forms dense clumps of bamboo-like stalks topped with glossy, dark green, fan-shaped leaves; reaches up to 12 feet in height with saw-toothed leaf ends.
Low Maintenance: Very popular due to its minimal care requirements; thrives in low light, is highly drought tolerant, and resistant to health issues.
Ornamental Features: Produces ornamental inflorescence and white fruit; new foliage emerges from fibrous sheaths that fall as the plant matures.
Adaptability: Very adaptable to various soil types but prefers neutral to slightly acidic soils with good drainage and organic content.
